Corrianne van Velze is an experienced hand therapist who lives and works in Pretoria, South Africa. She started her hand therapy career in 1980, presently she runs a private hand therapy practice, where she treats patients with many different upper limb conditions.She has presented many papers and lectures at national/ international congresses and has had a number of papers published, e.g. in the Journal of Hand Therapy. Corianne has also taught hand therapy in many different countries, other than South Africa. As a part time lecturer in the Department of Occupational Therapy at the University of Pretoria she teaches and coordinates all the Post Graduate Hand Therapy programmes. She has been actively involved in the International Federation of Societies for Hand Therapy from its inception and served as this organisation’s President from 1999 to 2001.
Inhaltsbeschreibung: Come and learn how to apply a really effective technique that will make all the difference to the patient with a swollen hand!
Manual Oedema Mobilisation is a method of oedema reduction, based of lymph drainage principles. This method was developed by Sandra Artzberger (from the US) and deals with the reduction of oedema by means of an overwhelmed, but intact lymph drainage system. It is geared towards the therapist who wants to reduce acute oedema due to upper limb trauma, using a simple, yet effective method.
The theoretical framework of the course will include the development of oedema, types of oedema, anatomical and physiological aspects of oedema, assessments and the actual technique of oedema reduction. The practical sessions will include a demonstration of the method on each segment of the upper limb. Participants will have the opportunity to learn the techniques, by practicing on a fellow therapist. A demonstration of oedema bandaging and pressure garments for the upper limb will be included.
In addition, this full day course will provide guidelines, which will enable therapists to teach their patients or their spouses to practice these techniques at home.
